Here’s How You Can Start Growing Your Own Fruits & Veggies At Home, And In Turn, Save Money!
There are plenty of ways that you can save money and spend your budget on things that are more concerning (or simply save it up for emergencies). One of the easiest of them all is growing your own food, and while you can’t grow your own meat or plenty of fruit and vegetables, there are some that you can grow in your own backyard. It might be a bit of effort on your end, but it’ll definitely pay off sooner or later, allowing you to save up the cash that you would have spend on these fruits and vegetables otherwise. Aside from saving money, you’ll find something to do if you’re bored at home and don’t have a hobby. Gardening can be a tremendous amount of work, but it can also provide you with an enjoyable past time once you get the hang of it. Nothing can go wrong with growing your own healthy food, and here are some which we think are the easiest to have:
Salad leaves are always in high demand regardless of the occasion or season, and luckily, they also happen to be extremely easy to grow. If you’re not consuming salad leaves at least a few times a week, you should definitely think about doing so because their health benefits are too good to be passed out on. One of the main advantages of growing salad leaves is that they take no longer than 3 weeks to get ready for harvesting. All you have to do is seed them at the start of summer, and then cut them out three weeks after planting, and they’ll keep on growing as time proceeds. Your plants will keep making salad leaves till autumn, which gives you plenty of leaves to consume using nothing but a small area where you’ve seeded your salad and a slight bit of attention and effort. Compared to how much you’d spend on salad leaves throughout the summer if you’re an avid consumer, this is a much better alternative.
Depending on where you live, tomatoes can vary in cost, but tend to be expensive more often than not. Couple this with the fact that they can grown extremely quickly in your own home, you don’t really have a reason to not give it a try. The best aspect of growing them is that they require virtually no space or effort at all – all you need to do is water them on time and they’ll sprout before you know it. You don’t need to start gardening for them either; simply hang them in a basket or pot right besides your window so they keep getting sunlight. Make sure you opt for a bush variety for this, of course, as anything larger will require more space to grow. Tomatoes can be grown by anyone, including children, so include them in the process to provide them with an opportunity to explore growing their own food, which can be an indispensable skill for their future.
You can’t go wrong with growing potatoes. Their process in one of the simplest that you’ll ever find, and the best thing about them is that there’s a wide variety of ways in which you can use them. From french fries to mashed potatoes, there are plenty of delicious meals that you can cook up with them, and you need to put in a bare minimum amount of effort in order to do that with your very own, homegrown potatoes. Simply put your potatoes in a potato bag and keep covering the growing shoots with additional compost till the time comes when they die back. Remember to keep the bag moist. You should start in late February, and the process should be complete within around 20 weeks or so, and you’ll be left with a bunch of new potatoes.
Even if you’re not into gardening or growing your own food, you should try and give it a shot anyway in order to see how much money you can end up saving. The worst that can happen is that you’ll have wasted a bit of your time, but on the off chance that you love the process, you’ll have gained a new way to save money for the rest of your life.
