Six Man-Management Strategies To Boost Your Business
Not everyone can manage a team and become a perfect leader. Often, businesses suffer because of a lack in man-management or a competitive and effective leader. It is intrinsic to understand that the success of a business depends on a variety of factors, and managing your vital assets is definitely one of them. A good product and a demand in the market is not enough. Every task is handled by a team that works together to get the product ready for the market. Hence, it is important to know how you can manage your team in the best and most effective way possible.
Make Your Weakness Your Strength
Let’s face it. We all have our flaws. When it comes to work, these flaws may hinder you from realizing your fullest potential. Therefore, it is important to find out the flaws in your teammates. Once you do that, work on these and try to remedy them. Also, distribute the tasks fairly so that everyone has something to do and be able to provide the best results doing what they know. However, it is a good practice to face your weakness rather than keep it under wraps. So, help them face their fears and work towards achieving their goals.
Do Not Over-Burden Your Mates With Work
Being the manager or the leader of your team, it is imperative for you to take care of each individual. Make sure you are not dumping heavy work on them and creating work-phobia. Instead, delegate work wisely, and don’t stop there. Keep checking with them as to how well they are doing, what are the pain points, and see if you can address them in order to expedite the process. When everyone is involved in it, they would feel like they are part of the team and give their best. Also, make sure that your team knows what they are doing. Often, companies forget that employees are not even properly trained for certain kinds of tasks. When that happens, the time and effort put in to complete it both gets wasted.
Do Not Ask Why It Was Not Done
If any team member fails to complete a work within the stipulated deadline, do not ask for reasons. Often, there are no reasons, and it only leads to embarrassment. Negative emotions will only make them even less productive than before, and may even discourage them. Instead, assign them to complete another task which they can complete within the deadline. Getting work done should be your aim, not making your teammates afraid of work.
Role Plays Can Be Helpful
Role reversals among your colleagues can often expose hidden flaws or talents. This is a great way to understand their potential and further learn about their strengths and weaknesses. It will also help you in filling up their appraisal forms. However, the main objective of this activity is to understand what your colleagues are capable of and distribute work to them accordingly.
Micromanagement Might Not Be A Good Idea Always
In some companies, micromanagement might be the solution to several issues. But in smaller ones, try to avoid it as much as possible. When you deal directly with your teammates, chances are you will know them and their working styles better, and you yourself can understand who is better suited for which work. Critical works during crisis periods especially require close supervision which is not possible with micromanagement. Apart from that, when employees are well-connected with their boss, they tend to feel better about their position which might help them be more productive.
Be A Good Person And Mind Your Ps And Qs
Finally, be a good person and behave nicely with everyone, including your subordinates. Even though they work for you, don’t forget your manners, and say “please”, “thank you”, and “sorry” whenever applicable. In a world where businesses are slowly losing personal touch, if you can hold on to it, you will be counted as unique.
For small companies, the team is their greatest strength. Be careful how you use your team so that it never becomes your weakness. Set an example yourself and be the role model for them and keep motivating them in all their tasks. That way, just as you will emerge as a successful leader, the required tasks will be fulfilled, too.
