Matt Damon Shelled Out $14.9 million To Provide Clean Water to Strangers

Matt Damon is famous for his philanthropic efforts. To help those who do not have access to clean drinking water, Damon decided to start a charity called Water.org. The aim of this organization is make clean water accessible to millions around the world. He donated $14.9 million in 2016 to support his partners in making this dream come true.

The actor is a supporter of human rights and co-founded Not On Our Watch. During the Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy, the actor stress on the importance of providing water to everyone around the world who can’t afford clean water.

Damon’s interest in the charitable cause was first kindled when he visited Zambia over a decade ago. Bono was the one who brought him to the country for his charity, ONE. Damon ended up following a little girl to fetch water, and she helped him see why water is important to millions in Africa.

When he came back from Zambia, he decided to start up something that would benefit people who lacks access to clean water and sanitation. Since Water.org was founded, millions of people have gotten water for their daily uses. Sickness has reduced and water borne diseases have been severely curbed in the affected areas.
