Earth Day is an event that celebrates the need to protect the environment and celebrate the planet. 2020 marked the 50th year of the Earth Day celebrations that began April 22, 1970. Since then, over 193 countries and around one billion people commemorate this event. However, no one will deny that it has been a pretty hard year for mankind. The COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc and took in its grasp millions of lives around the world.
Things that seemed normal lifelong aren’t normal anymore. The whole environment has changed. But the situation has started to get better later. Although the pandemic is far from getting over, some vaccines can help people overcome this tough time. The administration under Joe Biden, the current president of the United States, has brought back environmental programs that might turn things around in America. The celebrations of the event in 2021 will be virtual. Below is a list of all those events you can participate in this time.
Earth Day Live: Restore Our Earth
Earth Day Live: Restore Our Earth is an online live stream event that earthday.org hosts. It will be the second edition of the event in 2021. Restore Our Earth will be broadcast on the 22nd of April at noon, simultaneously with the global climate summit held by the Biden administration. What to expect from this event?
The fixture will include a host of politicians, celebrities, and activists from different fields. Before Restore Our Earth, there will be two events – first, a global youth summit on the 20th of April and second, a global education summit on the 21st of April. American Climate Leadership Summit
ACLS or the American Climate Leadership Summit 2021 is an alternative to the Leader Summit on Climate. Environmental activists will be assembling and taking part in the event from April 27 to 29, 2021. Through the sessions, crucial information regarding climate change, activism strategies, and various other issues. If you want to attend a single forum, you have to pay $25. For the single forum and the main session, you have to shell out $50, while the fee to access the complete program is $75.
Leaders Summit on Climate
Around 40 world leaders will be attending the Leaders Summit on Climate on the invitation of the American president, Joe Biden. The event will take place on April 22 and 23, 2021. What will be on the agenda? Topics like reducing carbon dioxide emissions and protecting the planet and people from the adverse effects of climate change. There will be a live stream link available for those who are interested. It will be available to you as the date of the event approaches.
Virtual 5K Race
WE ACT for Environmental Justice is an event for everyone who loves walking or running. You will get to participate in a 5K race that will take place during the Earth Day week., i.e., from the 17th of April to the 25th of April. Even if strolling for half a mile is your daily exercise regime, you can participate in the event. It’s up to you whether you want to donate the money you raise by being a part of the race or not. But those who register themselves for the race will be asked to donate either a fixed amount or any amount according to their wish.
Activism For Earth
On its agenda this year, the University of Utah has a few online performance events on April 22, 2021. Most of these events will occur at the National History Museum of Utah within the university campus. Among different events, there will be four performances that will be classified under the four elements – earth, water, air, and fire.
It will be a kind of a video mosaic. Alongside, you will also be treated to a feature film that would deal with nature and humanity, a discussion among a set of panelists, and the organizers will be signing off with many multimedia presentations.
